Let’s Be Honest: Midlife is a Circus
Between juggling work, family, and the occasional What am I doing with my life? moment, finding time for self-care can feel like a cruel joke. Who has the energy to light a dozen candles and soak in a bath for an hour when your to-do list is longer than a grocery receipt?
But here’s the thing—self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate. In fact, it shouldn’t be. A quick, consistent, 15-minute self-care ritual can help you feel less like you’re riding a chaotic merry-go-round and more like you’ve got your act together (even if you’re still winging it). So, let’s dive into how to make self-care actually doable—and dare I say—fun.
Start Small (Like, Really Small)
Let’s stop overcomplicating self-care, shall we? You don’t need to reinvent your life or wake up at 5 a.m. to journal your hopes and dreams (unless that’s your thing). Start with one ridiculously simple habit:
Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning (bonus points if it’s your GGG protocol ).
Take three deep breaths before bed and mentally say, “I survived another day.”
Put on lip balm and channel your inner goddess for 10 seconds.
Small steps build momentum. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a rock-solid self-care routine.
Do What Feels Good (Not What Instagram Says You Should Do)
Listen, not everyone loves journaling about their "gratitude journey" or doing an hour of yoga in candlelight. And that’s okay! It's definitely what works for me, but Self-care is personal, so pick something that makes you feel good.
Love a dance party in your kitchen? Crank up your fav Spotify Tunes and go for it.
Prefer sitting in your car alone for 5 minutes? That counts, too.
Want to binge your favorite trashy reality show? Self-care can absolutely involve reality TV.
The key is finding what genuinely recharges you—not what looks good on social media.
Anchor Your Routine (Because You Already Have a Routine)
The easiest way to build a habit is to tie it to something you’re already doing. I like to call it habit stacking. Think of it as self-care piggybacking on autopilot tasks:
Meditate for 2 minutes after brushing your teeth.
Stretch while your coffee brews or tea steeps.
Do a quick face massage while applying moisturizer.
When self-care becomes part of your existing flow, it’s easier to stick with it—no extra brainpower required.
Engage Your Senses (Because You Deserve to Feel Fancy)
Let’s be real: sometimes we need a little luxury to trick our brains into slowing down. Incorporating your senses makes your self-care feel special, even if it’s just for a few minutes:
Put the luxurious essential oils in the diffuser and enjoy the ambience .
Sip a warm cup of tea or coffee slowly (like the classy lady you are).
Play soft music or your favorite guilty-pleasure playlist while you unwind.
These little sensory touches can turn your quick ritual into a moment of pure zen.
Be Flexible (Because Life Will Throw Curveballs)
Some days, you’ll nail your routine. Other days, life will laugh in your face. And that’s okay. The point of self-care isn’t perfection; it’s consistency.
Miss a day? No big deal. Start fresh tomorrow.
Change it up if your current routine isn’t working.
Remember: self-care is meant to serve you, not stress you out.
Midlife is messy, and your self-care should adapt to your life—not the other way around.
